"Judy Stach’s work is full of color and lively with impressionistic brushwork. Her love of Nature and especially her rendering of water are evident as is her passion for the light that fills her work.”
- Timothy R. Thies

A life-long resident of Monmouth County, New Jersey, who currently calls both Florida and New Jersey home, Judy focuses on oil paintings of landscapes and seascapes. She maintains studios in Florida and New Jersey.  She loves painting small works in the open air, also known as plein air studies, often combining these with photo references to complete a larger painting in her studio.  Her approach to landscapes and seascapes is impressionistic representing the full range of colors, values, and light found only in Nature.

Judy is inspired to paint the fascinating interplay of light and shadow.  She often includes the interaction of people and activities in her scenes to express the intimate relationship between nature and man.

Over the past 30 years, Judy has received training from a number of outstanding artists.  She studied privately with Anthony Ventura for almost two decades and has taken workshops with the Plein Air Painters of America.  She has studied still life and figurative oil painting with master artist, David Leffel at the Art Students League in New York and plein air painting with Timothy R. Thies in Vermont, Arizona, and Florida.  In addition, Judy has painted throughout Florida with the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast.  She is a Signature Member of Plein Air Florida, an Artists Member of the Audubon Artists, New York and an Artist member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club of New York City.

In 2003, Judy received a rare invitation from Richard Schmid to paint with a group of artists known as the Putney Painters at the Village Arts of Putney and on location in southern Vermont.  Her works were featured in The Artist’s Magazine January 2000 issue and on the cover of the Commonwealth Courier Spring 2000 issue, cover of the Jersey Shore Magazine 2007.  In addition, her work was featured in the Summer 2005 edition of the Jersey Shore Vacation Magazine.  She has also been featured in Plein Air Magazine both individually (2004) and in connection with The Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast (2005), a group she founded in the Spring of 2004.  Her works has also been written about in the Fine Art Connoisseur 2007 and Design NJ 2008.  Her work has also appeared in The Best of Artist Series which won her a prize in Dec, 2008.

She is represented by Meghan Candler Gallery in Vero Beach, Florida, the Lambertville Gallery of Fine Art in Lambertville, New Jersey, and the Main Street Gallery in Manasquan, New Jersey and The Veranda Fine Art and Gift Gallery, Fair Haven NJ.  Judy is also a profiled artist in 2008/09 edition of Who’s Who in America Art as well as the 2008/9 edition of Who’s Who in America.  Her bio is also found in the Biographical Encyclopedia of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers of the US.

About the Artist and Painting Paradise
“I start every day in prayer.” The world is such a beautiful place that I find it hard to choose what to select and where to start when I begin a painting.  The camera helps me to decide.  It puts a frame around all that my senses take in.  However, the light and color can only be captured on location or en plein air.”

A New Jersey native, she has lived most of her life on or around water.  In recent years, with the purchase of a home in Vero Beach, she has spent time painting the intense colors that occur in Florida during the winter and the more subdued but equally compelling tones that the dreariest winter months produce in the North.  The result has been a softer palette that has become a major direction in her work.

“God is indeed the most powerful of artists.  His “paintings” and color combinations are lessons I seek to learn every waking hour.”

When asked which season or time of the day is best to paint, her response indicates the positive and uplifting mood that pervades her work and her life.  “I paint because it gives me life.  I feel that there is another life that lives within me that only comes out when I am in the process of painting.  The most perfect time is when the spirit moves me.  If one looks for beautiful things and colors they can easily be found at any time of day and in every season.  However, I focus more on the light of day than on nocturnal scenes because I feel more a part of life in the light than in darkness.”
